“ Air is the Guru, water the father and earth is the mother……….”

This concluding slok of Japji Sahib says that air, water and earth are of sole importance for the existence of mankind from the physical as well as spiritual point of view.

Guru Nanak says that air is the Guru, water the father and earth is the mother. Day and night have been created to look after us. The God keeps watch over our Good actions and bad actions and will be rewarded or punished accordingly. Those who have followed the path of Nam Simran will attain salvation and because of them many others will also achieve salvation.

This concluding slok has been very beautifully depicted in his painting. The mother earth has been painted as sitting on the top of the earth symbolizing its importance. Water and Air are also importance along with the earth for the existence of mankind. Day and night provide discipline in the life of a person. Day time is full of activity while night provides rest, both are equally important. At the top the Dharamraj (God) is shown reading the register. In that register all the Good and bad actions of a person are recorded. God keeps watch over this . It is believed that a person gets heaven, as shown on the other side according to his actions performed on this earth. A beautiful opening to the heaven is shown on the one side fire symbolist.

Air

Without air life is not possible on other planets in our Solar system. Air is a non-visible form of matter which is free flowing and in gaseous state. The Artist has shown in painting air as form of God, gifted a natural virtue on Earth which sustains life.

Water on Earth moves continually through the water cycle of evaporation ,condensation, precipitation, and runoff, usually reaching the sea.

Earth

Guru Nanak says the Earth is the mother for existence and sustainability of mankind and life on Earth. The mother Earth has been painted as sitting on the top of the Earth globe and taking care of a boy playing in her lap symbolizing its importance. Nearly everything we do each day is connected in some way to Earth: to its land, oceans, atmosphere, plants, and animals. The food we eat, the water we drink, the clothes we wear, the energy we use, and the air we breathe are all grown in, taken from, surround, or move through the planet

The quality of sleep directly affects the quality of one’s waking life, including mental sharpness, productivity, emotional balance, creativity and even physical vitality. Everything is tied to the rotation of the planet. The Artist has shown a moon and stars in night to give peace, calm and sleep one needs and on other side, a Sunny day to give energy, heat, light for all usual activities.
