This painting is based on Kabir’s bani ‘wonder why a person is so proud of his human body.’ This is God’s gift but the person does not care about it. He is busy in the day to day activities. When he achieves something feels proud of his achievement and also about his handsome and young body. He is unaware of the inevitable fact of death.
The artist has shown the messenger of death in the shape of Hammer. On the hammer is written ekb jET[ok iT[ w{zv wfj bkr?. When the death of hammer strikes at the head, the person is dead like the statue is broken into pieces as the hammer strikes on the statue. The person is always taken unaware by the God of death although he knows that death is inevitable. But remembering God redeems the person and the person attains salvation.
In the painting, a portrait Gyani Harinder Ajit Singh’Samdarsi’ and hammers on his head is shown. He was cousin brother of the Artist and only son of artist’s uncle S. Harnarain Singh, railway engineer. The Artist’s father and uncle S. Harnarain singh, both worked as railway engineer in Keyna and South Africa. Gyani H.I.Ajit singh also worked in Assam- Bengal railway and good association with the Artist. After retirement, he settled in Ludhiana. He tried to set up ’Baba Daya Singh memorial Library’ as mark of respect to his grandfather. He collected lot of books and about 3000 Punjabi idioms. But he and his wife died suddenly and the literature could not preserve as he had no issue. His dreams could not be fulfilled as the hammer of death of messenger struck.
