Guru Teg Bahadur travelled to the eastern area as he wanted to help his devotee and long time friend Raja Ram Singh as well as to meet his faithful devotees in that area.
At one time, Raja Ram Singh had helped Guru Teg Bahadur. Auragzeb had imprisoned Shivaji and his son Sambhaji and had placed them under Raja Ram Singh. The prisoners escaped and Aurangzeb felt that Raja Ram Singh had helped them. So he was ordered to lead an army against the king of Ahom in Assam. Raja Ram Singh felt that he was being sent there as a punishment but was afraid to disobey Aurangzeb. So he asked Guru Teg Bahadur to help him. Guru Teg Bahadur and Raja Ram Singh along with his army reached Assam. The Guru advised the king not to attack but to have an agreement with the Ahom king. Guru Teg Bahadur toured Assam. Guru’s noble work and teachings won over many people. Reports also reached the Ahom King. Some tribal leader was also revolting against the Ahom king. So he had to face the enemy on both side. He had to face Raja Ram Singh as well as the leaders of other tribes.
In this difficult time, he prayed to the Goddess for help. While praying he had the intuition that he should seek help from Guru Teg Bahadur. So he went to meet the Guru. The Guru advised him to reach an agreement with Raja Ram Singh. Protecting the interest of both sides, Guru Teg Bahadur was able to work out a treaty which was accepted by both the sides. In this way, war was avoided. This scene has been beautifully depicted in the painting. The artist has shown the Ahom king praying to the Goddes. Godess is also shown fully armored. The king had the intuition at this time and he saw Guru Teg Bahadur in his prayer. Raja Ram Singh’s army has also been show in the background. After this the king went to meet the Guru. With Guru’s help, he reached an agreement with Raja Ram Singh. So lot of bloodshed was avoided.
