S. Gurdit Singh (1874-1942) father of The Artist
He was born on 1874 in Vill. Jartauli, Ludhiana. He passed his tenth class from Raipur school, Ludhiana in 1890. He did civil engineering from Lahore Mayo School of Art, faculty of Engineering, Punjab University. Then he worked in Railway department in Kenya (Central Africa) for surveying and constructing railway lines. Later on, his younger brother S. Harnarain Singh also joined as Railway Engineer. Then they went to South Africa and worked in Cape Government Roadways and Cape Government Railways, Rhodesia system and stayed at Mafeking in South Africa. After working in African countries, he came back to India. He worked in Assam- Bengal Railways, in the office of commissioner, NowGong, Assam and supervised of construction of Lower Ganges Bridges, in District Pabna, .Assam.
While coming to Punjab from Assam, his wife died on the way. He performed her last rites in Patna Sahib. Then he left his only son Trilok Singh in care of his father at Vill. Jartauli, Ludhiana and went back to Assam. He bought land in Lanka, Distt. NowGong, Assam and stayed in Punjabi Basti. After the death of his father Baba Daya Singh in 1930, he took his son Trilok Singh to Assam. They together prepared the land for Agricultural purpose. He died in 1942 there.
